AHN Cancer Institute, Exercise Oncology & Resiliency Center
Based in Allegheny Health Network’s Suburban Hospital, the Cancer Institute’s Exercise Oncology & Resiliency Center occupies the 6th floor. The “EOC” is currently one of the few community and research centers dedicated solely to exercise oncology. Patients joining the program undergo an intake process to record various metrics, from baseline body composition, balance, mobility, psychological testing, and metabolic and strength measurements both before and after the intervention. Some individuals may undergo metabolomics, proteomics, macrobiotics, and oxidative metabolite testing. Patients then undergo a supervised exercise program prescribed by physicians and exercise physiologists who are certified strength and conditioning specialists. Individuals participate in small group training sessions on institutional review board-approved studies and have the option of continuation after completion of the initial protocol. Additional protocols are available as well.
